Mark Bailey
Q: Where did you get your idea from? What does it represent?
A: My idea came from my memory of the cover of a dvd case we had in my house growing up. There was a half skull half face on the cover and I don’t remember what the movie was but I remember the cover. I wanted to try to create an altered version of myself using that imagery.
Q: What technologies, software and processes did you use?
A: I 3D scanned my head, used meshmixer, and used sculptgl. I downloaded the skull file from 3d.NIH.gov and altered it.
Q: What challenges did you encounter? What would you do differently next time?
A: I found lining the face up with the skull challenging. Once I had it oriented and looking good from one side I would look at it from another angle and it wouldn’t look good. Also how to get some of it to stay locked while altering other parts. I would also like to try printing in multiple colours.
Q: What did you learn?
A: This is my second time doing this assignment, this time I learned how to manipulate existing files, and gained more confidence with the programs and technologies involved.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: It turned out cool. I am most proud of the skills I’ve developed using digital sculpting programs.
