Q: Where did you get your idea from? What does it represent?
A: The prompt ‘altered version of self’ made me think of previous art works I’ve done of people with mushrooms growing out of them. I like the play between gross and beautiful. I thought it would be a nice challenge to use these ideas while 3D Modeling.
Q: What technologies, software and processes did you use?
A: I used SculptGL because it’s easy, free, and it works on my little laptop.
Q: What challenges did you encounter? What would you do differently next time?
A: I found learning the tools and how to get the software to do what I want challenging. In particular selecting the entire sculpture, not just sections, and how to move things around easily. If I were to make another one I might make a bunch more smaller mushrooms. I would also like to give it shoulders and make it more of a bust with more of a base.
Q: What did you learn?
A: I learned how to 3D sculpt, how to use the SculptGL tools to achieve the look I want, how to place an image of my sculpture into a photo using photoshop, and how to upload my model into VR.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am very proud of it overall as someone who was really nervous about this project. I am also proud that I used photoshop to create the final image.
