Q: Where did you get your idea from? What does it represent?
A: When thinking of the prompt ‘something you love and hate’ I thought of my birthday. The cake represents my complicated feelings about my birthday.
Q: What technologies, software and processes did you use?
A: I tried SculptGL, Womp3D, Blender, TinkerCad, and Nomad Sculpt. I chose to use Nomad Sculpt because it is not too complicated and not too simple, and it is easy to use with an iPad.
Q: What did you learn?
A: I learned how to use the tools on Nomad Sculpt to create a 3D model. I sculpted one dollop of icing then replicated it to create the constant design around the cake. I did this with the icing ribbons on the sides of the cake as well. I used Womp3D to create the text and imported it into nomad sculpt from there.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of the candle. I enjoy having drips in my other artworks so I was really happy to be able to include that even though it is a small detail.
Q: What challenges did you encounter? What would you do differently next time?
A: Next time I would spend more time planning. I wanted to include more variations of icing decorations and with more planning I think I could achieve that.
